About

Divinely Inspired by You

Divinely Inspired Lit is a small online literary magazine.

This magazine is a safe space meant to share the works of individuals who share one thing in common... religious trauma.

This literary magazine is dedicated to those brave souls who didn't look back when they ran away from the faith, deconstructed but held onto a mustard seed of hope, and those who still don't entirely know what they believe.

I know you have stories to tell because I have my own stories, in my mind, that I dream to tell someday too. We at Divinely Inspired Lit want to hear it all. Whether that be about your personal post-deconstruction breakdowns in the bathroom, slam poems to purity culture that you wrote at midnight in your notes app, your own "wanna grab coffee" anecdotes... whatever it is that your traumatized soul yearns to share.

These stories are hard to tell but they are worth being shared. You never know whom your words will impact.

Kayla "El" J - Co-founder and Editor

Kayla "El" J (they/them, she/her) is a junior in college studying Writing & Linguistics. El is a disabled/chronically ill and queer writer, who dreams to normalize disabled and queer characters in media.

In El's early years, they were emersed in the Seventh Day Adventist denomination of Christianity in the deep south. El's immediate family deconstructed (before it was considered "deconstruction") from the SDA religion when El was young. From then on, El considered herself a nondenominational Christian. El's growth in the craft of writing has been both, heavily influenced and stunted, by their time involved in faith. For a long time El believed that if she wasn't relating something back to God or a moral high ground, it just had to be sinful in nature.

At sixteen years old, El realized they were gay. It took about two years to accept that, El's true deconstruction followed shortly thereafter at eighteen. El's deconstruction has played an intrinsic part in the work they create for and outside of college writing assignments.

In El's spare time, she likes to frequent her college's poetry slam nights, cry over Taylor Swift, and play with her three cats (Caleigh, Mocha, and Pepper).

El's poetry will be featured in Heartbalm Literary's and Unstamatic's forthcoming issues. El has a few other pieces being reviewed by other magazines at this time.

Tiffany didn't grow up in a religious household but did attend youth groups because that's what her friends did and it was her only escape from her home. Despite, the Sunday nights at youth group, she never really believed in the Christian god or experienced religious trauma.

But like most people, she has experienced trauma.

She's here for support and is glad to help in any way. She wants to make sure all voices are heard, especially those who are minorities.

In their free time, she plays Genshin Impact, writes, or sleeps.
